Athletics at the National Athletics Training Centre
In partnership with Athletics Ireland, the National Sports Campus has developed an innovative Academy programme that develops the key fundamentals of Athletics – Running, Throwing and Jumping.
Throughout the 8 week programme each child will learn how to run, throw and jump with sound technique. These improvements will help them enjoy and progress at other sports as well as Athletics. These learnings are delivered in a fun environment through events like Long Jump, High Jump, Hurdles, Sprints, Shot Putt Javelin and Race Walking.
The programme is delivered in the IAAF approved National Indoor Athletics Training Centre and led by 2-time Olympian and current Irish record holder David Matthews. The NIATC is a truly inspiring venue with the wow factor that will inspire your pupils and help foster a love of sport from an early age.
At the end of the term, your school will receive a report on the athletic condition of each child. This will include data on agility, speed and strength. This may help the class teacher formulate further lesson planning.
As part of the package class teachers can avail of a one hour workshop with our Athletics Coordinator who will provide an overview of the programme and content for developing follow on lessons back at school.
