Another Excellent Year at the National Sports Campus

2014 was another great year for the National Sports Campus with both the expansion of facilities and increased usage and visitors.

The footfall for the National Aquatic Centre grew by 8% to 931,074, making it the fourth largest paying visitor attraction in the country.

Our new synthetic pitches had over 70,000 visits – including local clubs of all sports and both corporate and fun 5-a-side competitions.  The pitches also hosted a range of fun multi-sport camps over the summer holidays and school breaks which have proved  very popular with our younger participants with over 1,100 children attending – and hopefully setting the next generation of athletes on their path.

The National Horse Sport Arena continues to provide world class training facilities for Horse Sport Ireland development squads and senior/international riders, including their award winning European Junior Cross Country Champion. The facility was also popular with the general public (clubs, groups and individuals) and saw the hosting of specialist training demonstrations and classes.

Morton Stadium, Santy maintains its position as the home of athletics, playing host last year to yet another successful National Athletic Championship and the annual Morton Games. During the Morton Games eight stadium records were set.

The Irish Institute of Sport, which provides a range of specialist services to our elite athletes, accommodated over 7,500 visits during the year and continues to play its vital role in preparing our athletes for national and international competition.

The world-class facilities of the National Modern Pentathlon Centre and Dry land diving centre have also proved to have been an enormous asset to their respective sports.

Campus CEO David Conway said “The past year has been a tremendous success for the National Sports Campus.  We were delighted to continue our expansion and roll out additional facilities to all of our users and customers, and to welcome even more visitors during the year. We look forward to continuing this success into 2015, which will be marked in particular by the start of construction on the National Indoor Arena.”
